The Town of Amherst is looking for an interested citizen to fill a vacant appointment on the Town of Amherst Audit Committee. This committee assists Town Council in fulfilling its oversight responsibilities relating to finance and audit matters.
To be a candidate for appointment, a person must demonstrate all of the following qualifications to the satisfaction of Council:
- Possess a knowledge of finance and audit-related matters;
- Be of good character;
- Possess the skills and abilities to make the commitment of time and effort required to carry out committee responsibilities; and,
- Consent to criminal record and background checks.

Traffic Disruption During Weekend Holiday Events

Christmas Parade Traffic Disruption
NEW DATE: Sunday, November 24, 2024 - 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
- 4 p.m. - Parade floats gather in the Town Square Mall parking lot (i.e. Dollarama)
- 5 p.m. - Albion Street will start to be blocked to traffic
- Traffic cones may be placed to prevent parking along the parade route
- 6 p.m - Parade begins, turning left from Town Square Mall parking lot onto Albion Street
- Streets feeding onto Albion will be blocked as the parade progresses
- Parade turns left onto Church Street - traffic blocked as necessary
- Parade then turns right onto Victoria - traffic blocked as necessary
- Parade end points: TD Bank parking lot and Dayle's parking lot
Drivers are asked to avoid these areas on Saturday evening and plan an alternate route, or to anticipate delays.

Emergency Water Repair Complete

Test of Alert Ready System Nov 20 in Nova Scotia

This afternoon at 1:55 p.m. Atlantic Standard Time, a test of the Alert Ready system is taking place across Nova Scotia.
You may hear the alert tone coming from your radio, TV, or cell phone - but, this will only be a test.
Test alerts help you learn what an emergency alert would look and sound like.

Albion Street Under Construction at Industrial Park Drive

Ongoing construction is now impacting the intersection of Albion Street and Industrial Park Drive.
Work is expected to take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, from November 18 to November 22, 2024. Traffic lights are not functioning and traffic flaggers are in place.
Drivers are asked to plan an alternate route, to avoid this intersection during the construction period, or to anticipate delays if driving through the construction area.

Construction Work on Industrial Park Drive

From Tuesday, November 12 through Friday, November 15, construction work will take place on Industrial Park Drive, from Albion Street to the area of Coast Tire.
Work will begin daily at 7 a.m. and will continue until at least 7 p.m.
The street will remain open, but flaggers will be in place and there will be traffic delays. Drivers are encouraged to plan an alternate route during this project.

Downtown Street Closures Today - Painting Crosswalks

Downtown streets will be closed at times today for the painting of crosswalks.
Victoria Street E. will be closed between Church and Havelock Streets. Then, Victoria Street E. will be closed between Lawrence and Church Streets.
These closures will take place in two phases to minimize impact. Barriers and detour signage will be in place, but motorists are advised to plan an alternate route during this time.
