Town Facilities Closed Jan 26

Due to forecasted snow and high winds, the following Town of Amherst facilities will be closed on Monday, January 26, 2026:
- Town Hall – 98 E. Victoria Street
- Amherst Stadium – 185 Church Street
- Community Credit Union Business Innovation Centre – 5 Ratchford Street
The meeting of Amherst Town Council originally scheduled for 6 p.m. on January 26 has been re-scheduled to 6 p.m. on February 2.
Amherst Police and Fire services will remain operational.
If emergency service is required of the public works garage, please call Amherst Police Dispatch at 902-667-8600.

NOTICE OF INTENT: By-Law To Amend the By-Law Respecting Discharge Into Public Sewers

Notice is hereby given that the Amherst Town Council intends to consider adoption (Second Reading) of a by-law to amend the by-law respecting discharge into public sewers D-3.
The subject by-law outlines the controls for connections and discharges to public sewer systems. Further to a recent application for a municipal boundary change to take into the Town the property located on the west side of route 204 in the community of Brookdale, PID 25038720, the proposed amended by-law will add wording that the by-law “shall apply to all areas within the Municipality and to all the areas outside of the Municipality that are serviced by a sewer system discharging directly or indirectly into any of the wastewater facilities owned, operated and maintained by the Municipality.”
Council intends to give second reading at a special meeting scheduled for Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the Community Credit Union Business Innovation Centre, 5 Ratchford Street, Amherst, NS.

Emergency Water Main Repair Jan 5, 2025

Public works is now repairing a water main break on Havelock Street near Canada Post.
Customers may notice changes in water service during this repair. Water service will be returned to normal as soon as possible.
Drivers are advised to plan a different route to avoid any possible traffic delays.
New Year's Eve Street and Parking Restrictions

Beginning at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, Church Street will be closed to all traffic between Wellington Street and Townshend Avenue.
Starting at noon on the same day (Wednesday, December 31, 2025), there will be no street parking on Wellington Street, Church Street, or Senator Avenue.
Street parking restrictions and street closure will all be lifted by 8 p.m. on New Year's Eve, after the fireworks show.

Town of Amherst Holiday Closures

Happy Holidays
Amherst Town Hall will close at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 and will remain closed until January 5, 2026 at 8:30 a.m.
The Amherst Stadium will close at noon on December 24, re-opening on December 27 - closed again on New Year's Day.
Fire and Police services will operate as usual over the holidays.
