Victoria Street will be closed to all traffic between Church Street and Havelock Street on Friday, March 14, 2025. This one-block closure will be in effect from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is necessary for construction.

Call for Citizen Appointments - Multiple Boards and Committees

The Town of Amherst is looking for interested citizens to fill vacancies on the Amherst Board of Police Commissioners, the Town of Amherst Planning Advisory Committee and the North Tyndal Wellfield Advisory Committee. These are volunteer positions.
The Amherst Board of Police Commissioners acts as a liaison between the Amherst Police Department and Amherst Town Council. The Board is made up of three members of Amherst Town Council, three citizen members appointed by Council, one citizen appointment that is a provincial appointment, as well as staff resources.
The role of the Planning Advisory Committee is to advise Council with respect to land use planning matters, and also acts as the Dangerous and Unsightly Committee and Heritage Advisory Committee. This Committee is made up of three members of Amherst Town Council, three citizen members appointed by Council, and staff resources.
The North Tyndal Wellfield Advisory Committee advises Town Council on policy issues to do with the protection of the groundwater quality. This Committee is comprised of Councillors and citizen members appointed by Council for both the Town of Amherst and the Municipality of the County of Cumberland.

Emergency watermain repair - Foundry Street and Copp Avenue

A water break has occurred at the intersection of Foundry Street and Copp Avenue. Emergency repair work will begin soon.
During this repair work, water service will be affected for the immediate area. Water service will be restored as soon as possible.
Traffic at the intersection of Foundry and Copp will also be affected during repair work and drivers are advised to plan an alternate route during this time.

Alley closed to all access

The alley running between Town Hall and First Baptist Church is temporarily closed for all use during construction of a new Town Hall access ramp.
A temporary access ramp will be available at the front door of Town Hall, on Victoria Street East. A doorbell will be place to request staff assistance to enter.
We appreciate your patience during this construction project as we improve accessibility to Town Hall.

Notice of Approval - Development Agreement - 96 Church Street

Notice is hereby given that at a meeting held February 24, 2025, Amherst Town Council gave second and final reading of a development agreement to create 7 units, 6 units within a building and one standalone unit, at 96 Church Street (PID 25013814).
Section 249 of the Municipal Government Act provides the right to appeal this decision to the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board within 14 days from the date of this notice.

Town facilities closed for Nova Scotia Heritage Day
