Victoria Street East will be closed between Havelock and Lawrence Streets, and Church Street will be closed at King Street on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for Amherst's annual Canada Day celebrations.

Canada Day collection changes - garbage, compost, recycling

Attention Amherst Residents with Tuesday, Week 1 collection! Please take note of garbage, recycling, and organics pick-up changes for the Canada Day holiday.
Tuesday, July 1 collection will take place on Saturday, June 28.
Please place materials are curbside by 7:00 a.m. to ensure collection.

Completed: Emergency water main repair - South Albion Street - June 25, 2025

Town of Amherst public works crews have completed repairs and water service has been restored to customers in the Albion Street area who were affected by this morning's water main break.

Water service will be impacted for customers along South Albion Street from Clinton Street to the area of KFC.
This is an emergency water main break. Repair work is underway, and estimated time to finish is several hours.
Another notice will be issued when repairs are complete and water service is restored.

Tree maintenance at Beacon Street Park - June 23-24, 2025

Public works crews will be removing several trees that fell recently in our Ronald MacDonald Rotary Playground, AKA Beacon Street Park.
This work will take place June 23-24, 2025 and sections of the walking trail will be closed during this time.
Please be aware of all closed areas of the park, to allow the safe completion of this work.

Sidewalk closure on Havelock Street at Ratchford - June 23, 2025 through September

Trinity-St. Stephen's Church will be doing repairs to its roof and bell tower over the next three months. This work requires the closure of the sidewalk beside the church on Havelock Street, starting at the corner of Havelock and Ratchford Streets.
Barricades will be in place on the sidewalk and pedestrians are advised to use a crosswalk to access the open sidewalk on the opposite side of the street.
This sidewalk closure will remain in place until work on the church is complete at the end of September, 2025.
