Tree maintenance at Beacon Street Park - June 23-24, 2025

Public works crews will be removing several trees that fell recently in our Ronald MacDonald Rotary Playground, AKA Beacon Street Park.
This work will take place June 23-24, 2025 and sections of the walking trail will be closed during this time.
Please be aware of all closed areas of the park, to allow the safe completion of this work.
Sidewalk closure on Havelock Street at Ratchford - June 23, 2025 through September

Trinity-St. Stephen's Church will be doing repairs to its roof and bell tower over the next three months. This work requires the closure of the sidewalk beside the church on Havelock Street, starting at the corner of Havelock and Ratchford Streets.
Barricades will be in place on the sidewalk and pedestrians are advised to use a crosswalk to access the open sidewalk on the opposite side of the street.
This sidewalk closure will remain in place until work on the church is complete at the end of September, 2025.

Shawn EMBREE aged 31 of Cumberland County, Nova Scotia has been charged with:

National Indigenous Peoples Day 2025 proclaimed in Amherst

June 21 has been proclaimed as National Indigenous Peoples Day in Amherst, which is an opportunity for Canadians of all ages to learn more about Indigenous history and culture, to assist in creating harmony among all.
At a ceremony this morning, Mayor Rob Small welcomed members of the community, staff from Indigenous Services Canada, and Town staff, before reading the official proclamation.
Tammy Drew-Howse, Associate Director General with ISC Atlantic Region, spoke to all in attendance about the significance of National Indigenous Peoples Day and its importance in ongoing efforts towards reconciliation.
Together, the Every Child Matters flag was raised, which will fly over the weekend and the summer solstice, June 21 - National Indigenous Peoples Day.

Mayor Rob Small Commends Premier’s Leadership on Chignecto Isthmus Project and Urges Continued Federal Partnership

In response to the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal decision regarding financial responsibility for the Chignecto Isthmus upgrades, Mayor Rob Small of Amherst is voicing his support for the Province’s approach and calling for continued collaboration among all levels of government.
“I believe the Premier did the right thing in seeking the court’s opinion on who holds financial responsibility for this critical infrastructure project,” said Mayor Small. “It was a responsible and necessary step on behalf of all Nova Scotians.”
Mayor Small also praised the Premier’s decision to move forward with the project in principle, even while awaiting legal clarity.
