Public Works will start downtown snow clearing operations tonight - Wednesday, February 25, 2026 - at 9 p.m. and continue throughout the night.
Much of downtown will be closed to traffic during this operation to effectively remove recent snow build-up.
Drivers are advised to plan an alternate route tonight. Barricades will be in place.

Traffic Detour - Emergency Watermain Repair
Public Works is completing an emergency watermain repair in the area of West Victoria Street and Hickman Street.
West Victoria Street is closed at the intersection with Hickman Street, and detours are in place.
Drivers are advised to plan an alternate route.
Customers will have full water service restored as soon as possible.

Town Facilities Closing Due to Storm, Feb 23, 2026

The following Town of Amherst facilities will close at 2 p.m. today - Monday, February 23, 2026 - due to forecasted winter weather:
- Town Hall, 98 Victoria Street East
- Community Credit Union Business Innovation Centre (CCUBIC), 5 Ratchford Street
- Amherst Stadium, 185 Church Street
Police and Fire services, as well as Public Works, will continue to operate as usual.

Summer Students 2026

The Town of Amherst is currently accepting resumes for a variety of summer student positions, listed below. In your application, please indicate which position you are applying for.
Turf & Trail Maintenance/Landscape Maintenance
- Assist with turf and trail maintenance and upkeep such as, but not limited to: mowing, trimming, raking, weeding, litter pick-up, and turf repair
- Assisting with the installation and maintenance of all floral displays such as planting, weeding, edging, mulching, and watering of flower beds, trees, and hanging baskets
- Litter pick-up and general beautification duties will also apply
Robb Sports Complex
- Assist in daily operations and overall tidiness of Robb Sports Complex. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Field maintenance and repair, mowing, trimming, lining ball fields, painting & litter pick-up
Active Living Programming & Community Events
- Assist with the development and coordination of programs and events to support family first and unstructured play activities
- Working with children as a Summer Day Camp Leader to lead games, crafts, sports, and outdoor adventures for campers in grades P-6
- Assist with the promotion of tourism, recreation, arts and culture within the Town

On behalf of the Town of Amherst, I want to express our heartfelt support to the residents of Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia following the recent tragic shooting.
While we are miles apart, small towns share a special bond – built on neighbourliness, resilience, and looking out for one another. Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, first responders, and all those impacted by this senseless event.
We stand with the citizens of Tumbler Ridge and send strength, compassion, and solidarity from one small community to another.
