Emergency water main repair - Lamy and Durley Streets

Please be advised that repair work is underway for a water break in the area of Lamy Street and Durley Street in Amherst. Water service will be affected for customers on and around these streets. Repairs will be completed as soon as possible.

New security measures in place at Amherst Stadium for Ramblers playoff games

The Town of Amherst is thrilled that our Amherst Jr. A Ramblers will be proceeding to the divisional semi-finals for the Maritime Junior Hockey League. Many others are just as excited, so new security measures have been implemented to ensure a positive experience for all attending hockey games at the Amherst Stadium.
With game one of the semi-finals set for this Saturday, March 15, starting at 7 p.m. in Amherst, we want everyone to be familiar with these regulations as they prepare to attend live games:
- Doors open one hour before game time;
- No backpacks allowed in the facility;
- Smaller bags may be checked at the door;
- No external beverage cups allowed in the facility (Yetis, Stanleys, etc.);
- The north side stairwell will only be accessible in case of emergency (Stairwell beside the opposing team’s dressing room);
- Foul language will not be tolerated, subject to ejection from the facility.

Street Closure - March 14, 2025

Victoria Street will be closed to all traffic between Church Street and Havelock Street on Friday, March 14, 2025. This one-block closure will be in effect from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is necessary for construction.

World Kidney Day - March 13, 2025

Today is World Kidney Day, and this morning we gathered to read our official proclamation. Mayor Rob Small did the honours, and he then welcomed Sharon Gould to speak on behalf of the many people in our area who are affected by kidney disease.
Members of Council and special guests took a moment to celebrate this significant day by posing for a photo with the Kidney Foundation flag, before it was raised by Mrs. Gould.

Call for Citizen Appointments - Multiple Boards and Committees

The Town of Amherst is looking for interested citizens to fill vacancies on the Amherst Board of Police Commissioners, the Town of Amherst Planning Advisory Committee and the North Tyndal Wellfield Advisory Committee. These are volunteer positions.
The Amherst Board of Police Commissioners acts as a liaison between the Amherst Police Department and Amherst Town Council. The Board is made up of three members of Amherst Town Council, three citizen members appointed by Council, one citizen appointment that is a provincial appointment, as well as staff resources.
The role of the Planning Advisory Committee is to advise Council with respect to land use planning matters, and also acts as the Dangerous and Unsightly Committee and Heritage Advisory Committee. This Committee is made up of three members of Amherst Town Council, three citizen members appointed by Council, and staff resources.
The North Tyndal Wellfield Advisory Committee advises Town Council on policy issues to do with the protection of the groundwater quality. This Committee is comprised of Councillors and citizen members appointed by Council for both the Town of Amherst and the Municipality of the County of Cumberland.
