Traffic Disruptions Downtown Tonight - June 4, 2025

Please be advised that Town of Amherst public works crews will be re-painting elements on street surfaces throughout the downtown area tonight.
Activity will start at 6 p.m. and continue until 11 p.m. at locations all around downtown Amherst.
If you are driving in the area tonight, please expect delays and traffic stops. Drivers are advised to plan an alternate route if possible.

Applications now open for homes in The Groves at Hillsdale

The Groves at Hillsdale is a new housing community on Church Street - a partnership between the Town of Amherst, United Way Maritimes, The River Philip Foundation, and The Shaw Group.
Homes here will fill gaps for housing options in the middle of the residential market.
United Way Colchester & Cumberland is now accepting applications for the first 12 rental units, and the organization is also accepting applications for the first 10 homeownership units.

Notice of street closure - Station Street, beginning May 28, 2025

Update: Work will continue this Saturday and Sunday May 31 and June 1
Station Street will re-open to all traffic at 5 PM on Friday, May 30. Work will continue at 77 Station Street on Saturday and Sunday where the street will remain open to all traffic, but minor delays may occur.
Caution should be used as there will be workers in the area.

The Town of Amherst will begin work to the building located at 77 Station Street starting on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at 7:00 am. This work is expected to take 10 days. The building is being dealt with under Part XV of the Municipal Government Act and has been deemed a dangerous and unsightly premises.
Due to this, Station Street will be closed daily from Crescent Avenue to Abbott Street during weekday business hours (7 AM to 5 PM) until work is complete.
All avenues under the Municipal Government Act were pursued by the Town to have the owner(s) complete the required work, but the owner(s) have failed to take action. The Town is carrying out this work to ensure the safety of its citizens.

Playground Update: Lions Park swings temporarily removed

The swings at Amherst Lions Park have been temporarily removed as we await parts for repairs. This equipment will be made available again as soon as possible.
